The €100,000 Super High Roller at EPT Monte Carlo boasted a stacked final table that included Christoph Vogelsang, Byron Kaverman, Ben Heath, Stephen Chidwick and Alex Kulev. But it was a local boy who took it down.

Of course, in Monaco the ‘local boys’ are all millionaires, and this one was none other than high stakes legend Patrik Antonius.

He won €1,967,440 after defeating Vogelsang heads-up for the title:

There were 72 entries in total for this nosebleed tournament. EPT Monte Carlo celebrates its 20th birthday this year and once again one of the icons of the game has shown they have still got it in the solver era.

“I don’t know where I fall,” Antonius commented when asked about his place amongst the all-time greats. “I was there before any of the solvers came into play, and not even hand histories were available. So I was there before anyone really knew how to play and then it evolved and evolved. I think a lot of experience, a lot of natural abilities, and of course, studying and evolving with the game. But I don’t know where I really fall.”

Elsewhere in Monaco, the EPT Main Event has attracted a record field of 1,208 with 154 players remaining at the time of writing. The eventual winner will bag a cool €1 million.
