WSOP Paradise announced $50 million guaranteed Super Main Event

For the second year in a row the WSOP and GGPoker have thrown down the gauntlet to challenge the WPT World Championship.

Last year the WSOP and GGPoker announced WSOP Paradise. An ambitious festival in the Bahamas that clashed with EPT Prague and the WPT World Championship.

It proved something of a success too. Not only did it beat most of the guarantees, both EPT Prague and the WPT Championship commanded impressive numbers.

Online qualifier Stanislav Zegal took down the $5,000 Main Event for $2 million, beating 3,009 other players.

On the final day of the Main Event an even more ambitious WSOP Paradise was announced. The details are sparse but what we know so far includes:

  • A $25,000 Super Main Event with a $50 million guarantee
  • A $1 million buy-in Main Event
  • The lowest buy-in event is $2,500
  • It takes place at the Atlantis between December 6-19

The Battle for December

The $25,000 Super Main Event is an even bigger challenge to the WPT World Championship this year, as it is the same buy-in level as that event, which guaranteed $40 million last year.

As per last year, most players will probably have the ability to play in both WSOP and WPT main events (other than the ones who go deep in the Paradise main event). The dates are not confirmed for the specific events yet, but these are the overall dates for the big three festivals in December:

Event Dates
WPT World Championship December 3-23
EPT Prague December 4-15
WSOP Paradise December 6-19

It looks like we have another battle for December between the big three operators. What, if anything, will the WPT and EPT do in response?

How close will it get to the guarantee? Let us know in the comments:
