The biggest merge in poker history? What will this GGPoker acquisition of the World Series of Poker mean for the future of the game?

Perhaps the biggest story of the year was a powerhouse merger, as GGPoker bought the World Series of Poker for $500 million.
If you work in the industry, you would have heard this rumour every few months for the last three years. It was no secret the GG and WSOP were essentially ‘engaged’ and now it is official, they are married.
This is a huge story in many ways, but perhaps mostly because of the exponential growth GGPoker has had.
How will the WSOP change in 2025?

They were virtually unknown five years ago but now they are the biggest site in poker and own the biggest live brand in the game.
The big question is what will the GGPoker business philosophy mean for the WSOP? This writer predicts we will see the WSOP become a tour rather than just a few events a year, competing more directly with the EPT and WPT.
Will they change the Main Event? Will we see the WSOP broadcasts no longer behind a paywall? How will the live and online rivals compete with them in 2025? It’s hard to say, but it seems pretty clear that the WSOP is set to change in the next few years.
Will this be good for the game? Let us know in the comments:
