229,559 entries this summer!

It was a record-breaking Main Event once again, which was great for the winners, but also the operators. The figures are now out about how much rake was collected at the 2024 World Series of Poker.

Hat tip to PokerNews who first provided these numbers

229,559 entries were registered in 2024 across every event, up from last year’s total of 215,655. That meant that $480,764,185 was wagered in tournaments – that is almost half a billion in buy-ins!

This meant that $42,170,034 was collected in rake. Of which $29,466,524 was taken in fees and $12,703,510 went to the staff. That means around 8.77% was taken in rake, on average, on each buy-in.

How much of that became profit is another matter. Putting on an event of the magnitude of the WSOP for two months is clearly no cheap feat. Having said that, you have a number to quote the organisers next year if you are stuck for a long time in the registration queue.
