After a lot of near misses, Coniff finally takes down his first bracelet in the $5,000 Champions Reunion.
The first open event of the 2024 World Series of Poker was the $5,000 Champions Reunion. A unique event where if a player knocked out a previous Main Event champion they won a seat to this year’s Main Event.
It attracted a healthy field of 493 players and the final table included David Coleman and poker author Michael Acevedo.
The eventual champion, however, was a familiar name. Asher Coniff took it down for $408,468 and his first career bracelet.

Coniff has a World Poker Tour title and a WSOP-C Ring, but the bracelet has previously evaded him. He has had lots of near misses including a 10th place finish in the 2022 Main Event.
He put down his previous deep runs as a reason for his victory last night:
“I think one of the advantages that I have is that I’ve been in live streams and spots before where people can see my cards [on the stream], and there’s bright lights, and it’s stressful. I’ve been here before, so I know what to do.”
Elsewhere in the WSOP the Casino Employees event was won by an actual casino employee, in the form of Jose Garcia, who took it down for $79,134.
