The folks at Grosvenor Casinos are just about recovered from the massive 2024 Goliath festival that saw William Watkins turn £200 into £166,058 after a nine-way deal at the final table earlier this month. That well-deserved rest is about to be broken with the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour (GUKPT) Luton festival rapidly approaching.
The 2024 GUKPT Luton festival runs from September 11 through September 23 at the Grosvenor G Casino on Park Street West. Luton may not be the first city that springs to mind when you think of poker tournament action, but the Bedfordshire town is a proverbial poker hotbed.
Many seasoned poker pros have left Luton with the GUKPT Main Event trophy in tow over the years. Sam Trickett‘s first major live title was the 2008 GUKPT Luton Main Event; he earned £109,050 that day.
Others to emerge victoriously in Luton include stalwarts Richard Gryko and Neil Channing, Charles Chattha, Leeds’ Jamie O’Connor, Driton Haxhiaj (twice), David Docherty, the 2022 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event third-place finisher John Eames, and Stuart Rutter.
Chris Johnson is the GUKPT Luton Main Event’s reigning champion, having outlasted 211 opponents in May this year, banking £48,570. The tour returns to Luton for the second time in 2024 before heading to Blackpool for the penultimate stop and the season-ended Grand Final in London in November.
2024 GUKPT Luton Schedule
If you are in Luton on September 11, you can play in a £50 buy-in satellite that awards tickets to both the £200 Opener and the £250 Mini Main, but the actual events kick off a day later.
Events such as the £200 Opener, £250 Mini Main, £1,650 High Roller, £550 GUKPT Cup, and the eagerly anticipated £1,100 GUKPT Luton Main Event are among the busy schedule.
